GOA Hosts Premiere of Names, Not Numbers Holocaust Documentary Film Project
On Tuesday, May 28, more than 350 people attended the film premiere of our Names, Not Numbers Holocaust documentary film project held at Temple Beth Shalom. The event was the culmination of the year-long project in which students in grades 10-12 learned interviewing, filmmaking and editing skills to document the courageous stories of Dr. Stephen Felton, Morris Gliklich, Gina Lanceter, Mark Schonwetter and Hanna Wechsler.
Prior to the film premiere, our Names, Not Numbers students and their families attended a private dinner with the survivors and their guests. It was truly special to see the reunions and the bonds that have formed between the generations.
Names, Not Numbers is run under the direction of Erin Sternthal, Golda Och Academy’s Marketing and Communications Associate (Names, Not Numbers Coordinator), and Upper School Social Studies teacher Michael Stern (Names, Not Numbers Advisor). Over the past 15 years, more than 200 projects have been completed through Names, Not Numbers, documenting stories of more than 1,800 survivors and WWII veterans by over 6,000 students in the US, Canada and Israel. The films have been accepted into the archives of the Jewish National and University Library of Israel in Jerusalem and are being archived at Yad Vashem and the Gottesman Library at Yeshiva University. The Names, Not Numbers program is generously supported by a prominent national foundation.
