As our 8th grade students approach the end of their Middle School experience at GOA, we are excited to announce the return of our annual capstone trip to Washington D.C.! We are thrilled that, pending existing health conditions, we will be able to offer this experience again to 8th grade. Our DC program will be both educational and an opportunity for the grade to bond as they explore the many museums, monuments, and memorials that stand in our nation’s capital. Our trip will be guided by the concept of pursuing justice through leadership. We have decided to name the Washington D.C. capstone experience, "Leadership, Justice and Service," and throughout the trip, students will explore these themes as it relates to the world, their community and themselves.
The Washington D.C. trip will take place over three days and two nights, from Tuesday, May 10th to Thursday, May 12th. The bus will depart GOA at 7am on Tuesday morning and return late in the afternoon, after regular school dismissal, on Thursday. Students and chaperones will be staying at a hotel in Arlington, VA and will spend each day experiencing D.C. through a variety of lenses. Stops on the trip may include the National Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Arlington National Cemetery, and much more. As mentioned above, the trip is designed to build peer relationships and create a cohesive grade-level community amongst the 8th grade students. There will be fun-filled activities throughout, including evening programming which we look forward to sharing more information about soon. In addition, all food provided to the students on the trip will be certified kosher.
