Golda Och Academy Receives $10 Million Challenge Gift from Jane and Daniel Och Family Foundation to Support Faculty Excellence
Read MoreGolda Och Academy announced today that the Jane and Daniel Och Family Foundation has agreed to make a $10 million challenge gift to support the school’s efforts to significantly invest in teaching excellence. The gift will establish the Dr. Michael Och Fund for Faculty Excellence, an endowment fund named in honor of Dr. Michael Och, the father of Daniel S. Och and husband of the late Golda Och. This important new fund is part of a larger vision for faculty at Golda Och Academy and will allow for the creation of a new faculty investment initiative. The Och family’s gift represents one of the largest investments in faculty among Jewish day schools in the United States. -
Golda Och Academy Receives Grant from the Healthcare Foundation of NJ
As part of the school’s Reopening Plan for Fall, 2020, Golda Och Academy is excited to announce that it is the recipient of a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. The grant is for the purchase of HEPA air purifiers to be installed in all of its classrooms and offices on both of their campuses in West Orange, NJ and is one of many measures being undertaken by the school to ready their campuses for in-person instruction in the fall during the COVID-19 pandemic.Read More -
Golda Och Academy Launches Project Moonshot Focusing on Educational Innovation
This past summer, Golda Och Academy was one of a select group of Jewish day schools to receive a planning grant which led to the application and acceptance of a three-year, $500,000 STEM Innovation grant from The Gottesman Fund in NYC. The grant will help fulfill Educational Innovation, one of the pillars in the school’s five-year Strategic Plan, expanding and enhancing student-centered and inquiry-oriented innovation teaching, learning and curricula across Pre-K through 12 grades.Read More -
Golda Och Academy Meets $15 Million Fundraising Challenge
In December 2010, the Och Challenge was born – a $15 million matching gift campaign created by Daniel and Jane Och in loving memory of Golda Och, Daniel’s mother and one of the school’s original founders. To commemorate her legacy and in honor of this transformational gift, the school changed its name from Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union to Golda Och Academy (GOA).Read More -
Donor Wall Dedicated at the Wilf Lower School Campus
On Wednesday, October 21, more than 40 major donors to the school’s Building on Tradition (BOT) campaign gathered at the Wilf Lower School campus for the dedication of our new Donor Wall signifying the official close of the campaign. The four-year campaign raised $32.5M for our school, that led to the renovation of the Wilf Lower School Campus, the addition of the Dr Lynne B Harrison STEM Center, and secured Golda Och Academy’s endowment for the future.Read More

Launched in December 2010, the Building on Tradition campaign was Golda Och Academy’s endowment and capital campaign to meet the Och Challenge – a $15 million matching gift by Daniel and Jane Och that led to the renaming of our school as Golda Och Academy.
In December 2014, the school met the challenge raising a total of $32.5 million, including the Och match. The closing of the campaign was officially celebrated in October 2015 at the donor wall dedication at the Wilf Lower School Campus.

The challenge was made in loving memory of Dan’s mother, Golda Och, z”l, who was one of the school’s original founders with husband Dr. Michael Och. Golda’s lifelong dedication to our school included serving in a multitude of leadership roles, including board president, business manager, and faculty member.
In response to the generous Och Challenge, Golda Och Academy focused on three major aspects to benefit from the Building on Tradition campaign – the Wilf Lower School Campus renovation, the Dr Lynne B Harrison STEM Center, Endowment for Academic Excellence, and Endowment for Affordability.
