Invest in Our Students

The Golda Och Academy Annual Fund is our school’s largest and most important annual giving campaign. The Annual Fund provides immediate unrestricted funds that allow our school to provide financial assistance to families in need, new and advanced technology, professional development for the faculty, academic and extra-curricular enrichment opportunities for students and much more.

Special recognition opportunities exist for donors who contribute $5,000 and more. These donors are invited to a special Major Gifts Appreciation Event in a private home. Donors who give at the Shomrei Torah Society level ($1,000 and above) are invited to a special annual Dessert Reception.

Your annual gift of any amount is critical to helping Golda Och Academy meet our commitment to academic excellence. We appreciate your participation in helping us to provide an outstanding education for our students each and every day.

“To us, Golda Och Academy means commitment—commitment to academic achievement, commitment to intellectual development, commitment to teaching Judaic principals and commitment to making the next generation proud of their Jewish heritage and culture. Since the GOA Annual Fund enables the school to continue to deliver on its commitments, we feel it is extremely important to contribute to the school’s effort.”

─ Samantha and Gabe Migdal, current parents
"I have always been a firm believer in giving back. I gained so much from both the formal and informal educational experiences at Golda Och Academy that, naturally, I wanted others to reap the same rewards that I did. When I think of GOA, I have nothing but fond memories. I reflect on my time there and think of all that the school gave to me: lifelong friends, unforgettable experiences, valuable life lessons and powerful educators who inspired me to become an elementary school teacher. It is for these reasons that I give to GOA the gift of money and time (volunteering). To be a Golda Och Academy alum is a tremendous honor, and I will continue to give back so that future generations of students can have the same wonderful experiences and opportunities that I was fortunate to have."
— Danielle Rockman, Class of 2012
"Todd and I donate to the annual fundraising campaign because we are grateful that our children have the opportunity to attend GOA and this is our way of saying thank you to the parents, teachers, students and alumni who make it all happen. GOA provides so much more than a quality education to its students. We all benefit by being part of an engaged and welcoming Jewish day school community, and I am proud to support our school."

List of 8 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: Why is giving to the Annual Fund important when we already pay tuition?

Like many other independent schools, annual fundraising bridges the gap between tuition and operating costs. At GOA, tuition only covers 71% of our operating costs. Therefore, an additional $1M needs to be raised on an annual basis to ensure our school continues to deliver an excellent education to each of our students.
  • Q: What is the money raised from the GOA Annual Fund used for?

These funds support everything we do at GOA every day from academic and teaching excellence to professional development for teachers, extracurricular activities in the arts, sports and STEM. Funds also support experiential Jewish education and a multitude of leadership and enrichment opportunities for our students. The GOA Annual Fund ensures that the school can provide critical affordability and financial aid programs.
  • Q: How much should we give to the GOA Annual Fund?

Any amount that is meaningful to you—whether $18 or $18,000—makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
  • Q: When is my gift due?

Gifts for the 2016-17 Annual Fund are payable through December 31, 2017. You can make your gift online now at or mail it to: Office of Development, Golda Och Academy, 1418 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052. For more information, or to learn about other ways to contribute, please contact Stephanie Bash-Soudry, Director of Development and Alumni Relations or call (973)602-3612.
  • Q: Are there giving recognition opportunities?

We have special recognition for our donors. Those who give $5,000 and above are invited to a special Major Gifts appreciation event in a private home. Donors who give at the Shomrei Torah Society level ($1,000 and above) are invited to a special annual Dessert Reception.
  • Q: How can grandparents double their impact?

In an effort to increase Annual Fund participation with our new and returning grandparents, Golda Och Academy has partnered with Barbara and Ed Zinbarg to match new or increased donations based on the following criteria:

Amount of New or Increased Gifts Eligible for Match:
    • New gift of at least $180, up to $1,800
    • Increase from prior gift:
       • Amount that brings the total gift to at least $180
       • Amount over $180, up to $1,800

Eligible Amounts will be Matched as follows:
    • 150% if total donation is paid by June 30, 2017
    • 100% if at least half of total donation is paid by June 30, 2017 and balance by June 30, 2018
  • Q: Why do we need to fundraise when we have a significant endowment?

While we are blessed with a large endowment that ensures our future, we can only spend 5% of the endowment annually and retain the principle in perpetuity. Endowment income is also highly restricted and primarily funds financial aid and several specific donor-designated areas.
  • Q: How do I become more involved?

We have a team of more than 60 volunteer workers who help with our fundraising efforts as well as grade captains who communicate with families in their classes and help ensure we have 100% participation from each grade. We are always looking for people who care deeply about Golda Och Academy and are invested in its future. If interested, please contact Stephanie Bash-Soudry.
