This week, staff from both campuses of Golda Och Academy had the opportunity to attend a Faculty Meeting together on the Upper School campus. The goal of the afternoon was to further engage all faculty in dialogue with one another.
Mr. Shapiro welcomed everyone and set a positive tone for the afternoon. Micah Gottlieb, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, also shared his insight on the positive experiences he has had since joining the GOA staff. Our Deans of Faculty at the Lower and Upper School, Tammy Anagnostis and Flora Musleah, then opened the afternoon of professional development. One of the key parts of the program was asking staff to reflect on the journey students have taken as they move through our school, many of whom start in elementary school. It was powerful to note how many teachers will interact with one child as they travel on their journey from Pre-K to 12th Grade graduation. The core values and mission of our school remain constant throughout the grades.
In small groups, teachers discussed contributions that they have made to our students. This would include exposure to new content areas, learning of new skills, and equally important, the building of relationship skills. The school’s mission statement and the six core values were used to foster deeper relationships between the staff and an opportunity to learn more about individual teaching practices. Fifth and sixth grade teachers were invited to a separate affinity group which focused on the transition students experience moving from the Lower to Upper School. We thank all of the staff for their important contributions at this meeting.
